The LADARWave™ Wavefront System measures and corrects distortions in your eye's optical system. Conventional laser vision correction could only correct the visual distortions called "lower order aberrations" commonly known as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It is estimated that these lower order aberrations account for 85-90% of the overall quality of your vision. Vision can also be affected by "higher order aberrations". These aberrations can be thought of as static light, which lessens the clarity of the image.
Using a "wave-front analyzer" the unique aberration pattern of your eye is mapped. The wave-front map is then used to program a laser treatment customized for your eye. The goal of this procedure is to be even more precise than with current techniques, to optimize your visual results, and to avoid night vision side effects such a haloes around lights at night.
