CONTACT LENSES
Contact lenses are an increasingly popular choice for vision correction. When used with care and proper supervision, contacts are a safe and effective alternative to eyeglasses.
The main two types of contact lenses are hard and soft. Most people wear soft contact lenses, which are made of a pliable, breathable plastic that can be worn daily, for extended periods of time, or are disposable. Hard lenses on the other hand are not pliable, and must be removed after a few hours of wear. These are recommended for people with astigmatism, since are able to adjust to the shape of your eye. TORIC soft lenses provide a soft lens alternative for people with slight to moderate astigmatism.
Not everyone can tolerate contact lenses. Certain conditions may prevent an individual from successfully wearing contact lenses. These can include dry eye, severe allergies, frequent eye infections, or a dusty and dirty work environment.
Our staff will evaluate the size and shape of your eyes, as well as evaluate whether your lifestyle and eye health are suitable for wearing contacts. Corneal topography will help determine the shape of your cornea. Depending on the results of your evaluation you will be provided with trial lenses to determine comfort, fit and visual acuity.
If you are a first-time contact wearer, you will be trained on how to insert and remove your contact lenses, as well as how to properly care for them. It is important to follow all of our instructions for care, as improper use may lead to eye infection, discomfort, eye sensitivity and irritation. Properly caring for your contact lenses will also ensure they will last as long as they are supposed to. If for some reason your eyes do not adapt to your new lenses, we will be happy to try new ones, until we find the perfect ones for you.
