In some cases other procedures may be performed simultaneously to cataract surgery to eliminate and/or reduce Astigmatism, Presbyopia, Nearsightedness and Farsightedness.

There are two major types of intraocular lenses, monofocal IOLs and multifocal IOLs.

Monofocal IOLs are the basic type of lens implants which allow patients to see at a distance or near, but not both. These are covered by most insurance companies, but are not always the best choice available. Patients who elect Monofocal IOLs will still need to use glasses.

Multifocal IOLs are designed to correct the full range of vision. In clinical trials 80% of patients who had the ReSTOR lens implanted never used glasses again, and over 95% of the study subjects were so satisfied with their new quality vision that they would have the ReStor lens implanted again.
